I never thought the day would come when I would want an apple computer after my high school using them. I always looked at them as overpriced and under powered. The day has come though where I am really considering a Mac book pro, the 2010 13” version to be specific. It would seem with apple running Intel chips now they have really stepped up their game.
As I look for a new laptop I have had a few key points in mind that I thought were important:
- 6-8+ hour battery life
- Faster than my C2D 2.0 with a 8400M GS
- Good build quality
- Under $1600
- Most importantly 13”
I looked around and saw many 13” laptops a few notable ones were:
- ASUS U30JC for around $1000
- Apple MacBook Pro for $1100
- Sony Vaio Z for $1900
The ASUS was basically a cheaper and slower MacBook. With both of the ASUS and the MacBook under budget there was no reason to even look at the ASUS. The Sony while very nice was bordering on insane for the price and way over budget. Also with the apple there were benchmarks that the battery really lasts 8 hours with light to moderate use and a very solid feeling body. Overall I think I might be buying an Apple laptop soon…

So the build that is going to be handed out at GDC is done. There has been a lot of work put in and I think it shows mostly. The game has a few things that need polish in both the art and programming side but I believe that the game is more than ready to be initially shown to people.
Also while everyone else was discussing what they wanted to change for minor value tweaks I decided that this site should get a new theme. It does not look to bad at the moment but I will keep tweaking it for a little while yet until I get it just how I want it.

I just got my first set of business cards today. They turned out nice I think, considering I have never had any before and I have no idea what is what when it comes to business cards. Looking forward GDC is only about two weeks away. Hopefully everything will be ready with Attero by then. A lot of stuff will be cut close it seems but will make it. The team demos the game to the our school next week and everything for the DVDs to be printed must be in before Wensday.
Man time goes fast…

So as time grows closer for Attero the project I have been working on to have its first demo. I have decided that there should be at least a semi functional server browser as the UDK does not give on. This seemed to be both a curse and a blessing. The blessing is that I get to learn something new. Though the curse is that I know almost nothing of low level networking and how a master sever should be properly set up.
Building a master server really is a learning process for me. I have gone through several iterations as a new problem or feature comes up and a major part of the server needs to be redone. Overall the end product is not to bad, I have not yet tested how far it can scale or how secure the system is (I bet not very) but it gets the job done.
The new challenge I seem to face now is to create a NAT punch through server on top of the master server to allow a wider group of people to play the game. We will see how well this goes.

I got my first internship recently. My tasks are to create and customize ecommerce websites to customers specifications. While it may not be programming for a large studio making video games, it is a start and should be fun. I am already diving into Amazon’s API to automate everything.
